About BLH Nobel

Precision weighing and
force measurement
since 1937

BLH Nobel designs, manufactures and supports high-performance process weighing and force measurement systems, engineered in Sweden and installed in more than 100 countries. From a single load cell to a complete, custom-built measuring system, our products are made to deliver accurate, repeatable results in the most demanding industrial environments, year after year.

The brand unites two pioneering legacies: BLH, with a direct line to the company that commercialised the strain gage, the technology behind nearly every modern weighing application, and Nobel, rooted in Sweden's Bofors Industries under the ownership of Alfred Nobel. Today, as a brand of Vishay Precision Group (NYSE: VPG), that combined expertise lives in one company with truly global reach, backed by deep technical know-how and an accredited force laboratory that has upheld traceable calibration since 1984.

Our heritage: a legacy of precision spanning over 85 years

Two independent traditions of measurement, American strain-gage science and Swedish load-cell engineering, ran in parallel for decades before converging into a single brand.

1937–38BLH lineage

The strain gage is born

Dr. Arthur C. Ruge (MIT) and E. E. Simmons (Caltech) independently develop the strain gage, the technology behind almost all weighing and force measurement that follows.

1955BLH lineage

BLH Electronics is founded

Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton acquires Ruge-deForest Inc. and establishes BLH Electronics.

Late 1950sNobel lineage

Bofors invents the KIS load cell

In Sweden, Bofors starts a weighing business and develops the patented KIS load cell,
prized for its resistance to twisting and side forces, and a flagship to this day.

1976Lines meet

Bofors acquires BLH Electronics

The Swedish and American traditions meet for the first time.

1984Nobel lineage

An accredited force laboratory

The Sweden-based force laboratory achieves compliance with ISO/IEC 17025, a standard of traceable calibration still upheld today.

Mid-1980sNobel lineage

Nobel Elektronik takes shape

The Bofors load-cell division becomes Nobel Elektronik, later part of Thermo Electron.

2002Lines converge

United under Vishay

The BLH and Nobel expertise is collected under one global brand, Vishay Intertechnology, then the world's leading maker of foil resistors and strain gages.

2010VPG era

Vishay Precision Group spins out

The resistive-foil sensor businesses become an independent company listed on the NYSE: Vishay Precision Group (VPG).

TodayBLH Nobel

One brand, two legacies, global reach

BLH Nobel serves customers in more than 100 countries, alongside VPG sister brands KELK, Gleeble and VPG Onboard Weighing.

From a single load cell to a complete system

Deep technical expertise and in-house Swedish development and manufacturing, backed by a global service network.

  • Engineered solutions Custom load cells and transducers designed via CAD/FEA to your exact specifications, any capacity up to 4,000 tons, in high-strength, stainless or super-duplex materials.
  • Made in Sweden Standard products and complete measurement systems for compression, tension and torque, produced and developed in-house for full control over quality.
  • Calibrate & maintain Accredited calibration, field service and qualified decision support that strengthen safety, quality and ROI across the lifecycle of your installation.

A high-reliability laboratory at our core

Calibration has been part of BLH Nobel throughout our history. From our Sweden-based facilities we operate an accredited force laboratory (AMP 1156) that calibrates transducers and load cells with full traceability to national standards, to BLH Nobel validated methods or SS-EN ISO 376.

  • Accredited since 1984 Continuous compliance with SS-EN ISO/IEC 17025 for force calibration.
  • Accredited range 2 N to 2 MN One laboratory, from small transducers to heavy-capacity load cells.
  • Best capability 0.02% Best measurement capability, achieved in the 2 N to 2 kN range.

We calibrate our own production masters once a year, which gives full traceability to national and international standards on every load cell we produce. The methods are documented in our handbooks, the same references our engineers use in the field.

A Vishay Precision Group brand

As Vishay Intertechnology grew through innovations and acquisitions to one of the world’s largest manufacturer of electronic components, its resistive foil technology products became non-core businesses. In 2010, these businesses spun out into an independent company listed on the New York Stock Exchange: Vishay Precision Group (NYSE: VPG).

VPG is an internationally recognized designer, manufacturer and marketer of systems and components based on its resistive foil technology, sensors, and sensor-based systems; specializing in the growing markets of stress, force, weight, pressure, and current measurements.

BLH Nobel is one of the brands in the VPG weighing and control systems portfolio, alongside KELK, Gleeble and VPG Onboard Weighing.
